I Am Not Esther

While her mom travels to Africa on a work-related trip, a New Zealand teenager named Kirby is sent to live with the family of her Uncle Caleb and Aunt Naomi--relatives she`s never before met. Once settled into her aunt and uncle`s house, Kirby discovers that they are members of an extreme religious group--and that they expect her to live by the strict guidelines of their religion. This means that Kirby`s name is changed to Esther (the sect demands that all names be from the Bible) and that she modifies not only the way she dresses, but also her outspoken attitude. When Kirby attempts to defy these rules, she is horrified to discover that the other children in the family are punished until she complies.
